First semester reflection
I learned about US history and the politics and conflicts that made the nation. We where to learn about the US and and the specific topic in the lesson and Take a quiz to get a score of 70% or higher to pass I didn't get the whole way through the units I got to the fifth one out of eight.
I had to take notes on a period in time and the events that happened. I didn't have any pictures or old work so I used a paper from the second semester we did three weeks after the first semester ended it is about the cold war but we were learning about ww2, the civil war, and early women's rights. The process I would follow to get a good grade on the notes is the same every year and semester.I listen carefully and write as much about the most important things then Mr.Tennant would stop the movie and talk about important points of thing he thought we needed clarification on and I would write what he said. We learned about the cold war and how the cuban missile crisis played out and how the US army hid the fact they might invade cuba. This helped become a better note taker and help me get a better grade in the future because I mostly get eights and nines.
I showed I got better at two of the SLOs or school learning objectives they are “Mastering skills needed in career and college” and “Self Directed learner who communicates effectively.” I chose those because I will have to get better at taking notes for college and possibly my future job the other because I had no one telling me when to take notes or hoe to so I was on my own trying to write down what was best for me. I would have liked to demonstrate “Mastering skills needed in career and college” better because feel like I could have done a better job taking notes so that I could have gotten a better score like a ten the best you can get.
Nevertheless I have gotten better at history learning things I didn't know filling gaps in my knowledge and taking better notes over all to help in all my classes and in the future. I will need to take notes my entire life and i need to take good ones of that's the case.
T.V. was a important tool to get a message across well or to spread word of something such as when JFK won a debate against Nixon on T.V. and showed each person the candidates and you could better tell if you wanted them as a president. At the time T.V. also had heavy censorship because they were scared of being shut down but they smoked on T.V. and everywhere else they also canceled shows that broke the censorship deal. Colour T.V. came out in the middle of the sixties. New became a big part of what T.V. was used for and in the early years of that JFK was assassinated and no one knew how to tell them on T.V. and when they did it allowed people to better understand what happened and it helped people to better understand the situation in other places such as the horrible discrimination in the south.
The US used U2 spy planes to take pictures of Cuba and the USSR to make sure they didn’t do anything and then the USSR put SS-4 mid-range ballistic missiles into Cuba. In the white house all the phones were connected and they had telephone operators plug in wires to allow two people to talk. Using this they talked about what was to be done about the soviets putting missiles into Cuba. During these talks the generals made it clear that they thought JFK was weak and that they thought invading Cuba was the only way to get rid of those missiles for good they were split of talking with the soviets and getting them to take them out or invade risk war and destroy the missiles themselves then they thought about blockading Cuba and stopping more missiles from making it there they tried to stop news of the missiles from getting to people. Then at a UN meeting they told everyone and showed evidence that the soviets had missiles in Cuba. They blockaded Cuba and tried to talk to the head KGB spy to get the missiles removed after they got a heartfelt letter directly from the USSR's president they got a cold and mean one and they thought they overthrew the president and put in a puppet leader they met with a ambassador and got the missiles removed and the US took their missiles out of turkey.
Most places were segregated and colored places where worse than and not as good as the white places they held sit-ins to protest segregation they started around the election of JFK. Jim crow laws in the south kept people of different races away from each other along with the fact that if a white person beat up a colored person they would arrest the colored person for starting a fight. JFK was the first president to deal or talk about segregation and how to stop it. In Mississippi they tried followed a bus of freedom riders out of town and tried to kill/beat them some got away others didn’t. One time they were forced into a church and they had to send the national guard to get them to safety. As more people got in trouble for breaking the segregation laws the more people came to help the cause.
The space race was a race to see who could get to the moon first and the biggest two countries to participate where the US and the USSR they both developed powerful rockets and had old Nazi scientists working to build them then the US got ready to do sub orbital jumps to test their rockets and life support. Wernher von Braun was head of the NASA rocket program and he made the V2 and A1 rockets. The soviets used the N1 rocket and its variants to get to space and orbit and the US used the Saturn V rockets with three stages with all rockets optimized on the altitude they were going to be firing in they used RP-1 rocket fuel with the explosive potential of 2,000,000 tons of TNT the same fuel as SpaceX’s merlin D rockets its F1 rockets where very efficient but vary dangerous and not well made all different from each other and engineering keeping notes on how to build them and fix them. The soviets used the N1 rocket to put a man into orbit. The Apollo missions was the final missions to get to the moon there were several preceding it, Apollo 1 was the first space flight deaths after the crew pod filled will 100% oxygen burst into flames after a not well shielded wires short circuited and started a small fire killing everyone inside. After they used heavy shielding on the wires and switched to a 20% oxygen and 80% nitrogen.
During the class of US history, the learning objectives are to learn about US history and the conflicts the US was in. this is valuable to my future because it allows me to know more about the country.
The project that I am submitting as an artifact for US history had the following learning objectives where to watch a movie and learn about the lives of teddy and franklin roosevelt these link back to the course learning objectives by learning about important historical figures that helped shape the country The assignment or project was about the lives the teddy and franklin roosevelt And required me to watch a movie and take notes on it inorder to wright a essay later down the line.
The Process I went through to do this project and meet the learning objectives first started with watching the movie and writing down key points then making sure I know what those points mean after when i'm writing the essay.
Throughout this process listed above I have realized I have learned or grown in the following ways quickly taking notes that convey a point and being able to be understood my my teacher and by me. These link back to the course goals and project goals with the following evidence of because I will more easily pass quizzes with good notes that I can rely on for when I don't remember what the answer is. This tells me the following about myself and how I learn I learn through practice and doing something.
The Two School Wide Learning Outcomes I demonstrated with this Artifact are a Self Directed learner who communicates effectively and Mastering skills needed in career and college. I have demonstrated being a Self Directed learner who communicates effectively in the artifact by demonstrating that my notes can not only be read by me and understood but my teacher to This is important because it allows me to get good grades.
The Second SLO I demonstrated was Mastering skills needed in career and college by taking notes and practicing them for when they really count in college and is important because it will allow me to take better notes later on.
I could have improved the following SLO better by taking more of my time and taking more notes
